Some poor old dobbins are made into glue

Rapidly approaching my 45th, yes, you heard that right, birthday, I am living proof that horseplay is a lot like riding a bike. It all comes back to you as soon as you take hold of the reins.

Granted I had to fall out of line after three of four laps, bend over and pant to catch my breath, and there was a moment when I was worried I had pulled a muscle slipping on the slicker-than-snot, French- clay mud, but I'm still walking and might just go out there again, if the kids will have me.

But I'll definitely wear a more supportive bra next time. Funny, you think there's nothing there to bounce until you break into a gallop.

For a fuller, more comprehensive picture, this is what I was up to on my 42nd birthday.

Hmm. Not sure if I've matured or not.

Thanks, Kim. I am totally jumping the gun here, almost a month away, but the number 45, has me feeling like I must prepare myself for some reason.

Happy Birthday early! I turned 48 a month ago and I'm training for a marathon -- you start to realize that you have to "go for it" cuz' it's not going to get any easier in the years to come! :)

Didn't 45 used to seem ancient? And now, as we all speed along through our 30's and 40's it doesn't seem so old anymore. In my mind I'm sure I'm 23! I'm sure your birthday in a months time will be a happy event.

Betsy, happy birthday! And I'm glad you had fun!

I just had my first baby at 41 (I was in the hospital with the doctors trying to induce me for my birthday, in fact -- best present ever!), and strongly believe that the 40s are the prime of life. And I hope that when I'm in my 50s, I believe that the 50s are the prime... you know how it goes.

I'll be 45 on Tuesday....I cannot for the life of me figure out where all those years came from.

Hoping you have a wonderful day when it arrives!

Awesome 42nd, by the way. I think it's vital to 'wake up' out of the adult haze sometimes and remember to have some good fun. Kids are awesome for us in that way. They're good at enjoying life. One of the reasons I love being a mom is because my kids are always up for it- dancing in the rain, spontaneous running down the street, breaking out in song... anything.

I had a snowball fight with my daughter today... not to brag, but I totally kicked her butt.

You're a good mom, Betsy Shaw.
