Happiness is red boots

I think the real reason we went all the way back to America was so I could be reunited with my favorite red boots. What was I thinking leaving them behind?

Since it is hunting season in France, which means the woods and byways are filled with overzealous, gun-toting Frenchman eager to mistake anything that moves for a wild boar, I have taken to urban hiking.

As much as I still want to see a wild boar, I don't want to be someone's wild boar.

There's plenty of extreme urban terrain around here and I can be a tourist while I walk. I can also window shop while I walk. In one nearby town, which is walled in and precariously perched on a cliff, there are oodles of paths and switchbacks with stairs leading down to the valley below. I've been on every one of those paths, zigging and zagging my way to some middle- aged sort of endorphin high.

I was meant to be inside this body and this body was meant to move, frequently.

That's about it for now.

New Momformation posts somehow keep coming over here and here.

Betsy, I love your red boots! It looks so peaceful where you walk. I want to walk like that, but a lot of the year here it's just to hot. It's just starting to cool off a bit now, and I've been encouraging my husband to walk with me. Unfortunately, I'm not very motivated that way. I wish that I was. I used to be in GREAT shape and now I lament about my soft middle (but you already know that. I've complained about it on momfo before.). Not to mention that I'm just so TIRED! It's hard to find the energy for exercise when you never get enough sleep. I know, excuses, excuses! I'll never loose this last 10-15 pounds if I don't get off my lazy rear!

Betsy: I just wanted to tell you that as a fellow mom of 2 (mine are 4 and 10 months) I look to your posts both new and old for both inspiration and humor. Thank you for your beautiful writing, your honesty and your sense of humor.

I'm so glad that you got your red boots, Betsy! They look terrific in movement.

Keep on truckin'. Um, walkin'! :)
